Launch of The Fig Tree webzine
As some of you may know, I have launched a new webzine called The Fig Tree, also here on Substack.
Before I send out this week’s main blog, which is a review of Sarah Wimbush’s collection STRIKE, I thought I’d say a few words about The Fig Tree.
I have to say that the first issue exceeded all my hopes and expectations. I knew that my featured poet, Ian Parks, would deliver what I needed but I was lucky enough to get some top quality poems to fill the ten other slots that are available in each issue.
I have some excellent Featured Poets lined up - into next year already. This section, of 3 poems by that poet in a single issue, is by invitation. Other submissions can be up to 3 new poems, all of which could be accepted but would be published one per issue.
I think this selection identifies what I love about poetry, and how I would like to write. However while using this as a guide for what may be accepted, I’m also a fan of many poetry forms and styles (where they are appropriate) and humourous or light verse, so expect to see high quality poems that are a bit different and some wild cards in there.
I plan to produce an issue every two months and submissions are open all year round. Click on the button below to read the first issue and find out how to submit.
